sleep is a forgotten season
left in the aftermath of distraction

the wedding whites are fading
please, save me from the fall.

Alive and Kicking

It has been a while:

There is finally a second monthly blues venue in Los Angeles *cheers* On the second Friday of each month is an event called Blues Muse. It happened last Friday for the first time, and turned out quite well. I taught the beginner class with my wonderful friend Mark, and also Djed. The idea behind blues muse is that in addition to a lesson at the beginning of the event, for the first hour there will be people dancing who are the "muses" they are for people to dance with and ask questions from and to give advice.

More Blues News:

next Friday is DoSomethinBlue, where I will be teaching the beginner lesson and possibly Djing (Djing not confirmed)

For the most part life is going well, although I have been sick with a rather annoying flu this past week. Lots of very sexy hacking and nose blowing.

I will possibly be coming up to the bay area on either the weekend of the 2nd or the 23rd of Feb.

Just took my first Aerials class since being back in California, and oh my goodness does it hurt. Thats what I get for skipping class for six weeks.

Curious, very curious

Tonight, presents were opened. There were several presents that were addressed to people but without any clue as to who the giver was.

I received "The Collectors edition of Victorian Erotica" and I have no idea who it is from.

Clearly there is some meaning in this......I think I need more wine to figure it out.

God I love the holidays.

Happy Holidays!

I think there is something to be said for spending at least part of the winter season in a place where it actually looks like winter. Nice to be reminded that there is a cycle to life and that we are not in fact invincible. It sounds silly but I get the feeling that people in los Angeles, and elsewhere, where there are less noticeable seasonal changes are missing out on something.

The snow in Colorado is wonderful, light and soft. We had four inches of snow last night and it was still snowing in the morning when we got up to go skiing. My legs are killing me but I am quite proud of myself. Yesterday we did 4 black diamond runs and 3 double black diamonds. Today we went over to the backside of the mountain and did 4 steep double black runs right under that chairlift. Then we went easy and did some nice buffed runs until 2:30.

Last night a few of us got into an argument about the modern music scene. My father was saying that people now don't really have the same zeal about artist that he and his friends did when they were young. He said that when he was younger he could name his top artists and songs of that specific year. He challenged of few of us to make playlists of our top ten songs that came out this year. They have to be new songs, not covers or re-released songs.

The question interested me so I thought I would put it to all you good people.

What are your top ten songs that were released this year?

Edit: the ten a have picked this far: (suggestions welcome)
Rag & Bone - The White Stripes
Gravity - Sarah Bareilles
Give It to Me - (feat. Justin Timberlake & Nelly Furtado)Timbaland
Here I Come - Fergie
The Oscillator - Thievery Corporation
Hard Pill To Swallow - Koko Taylor
In the Basement - Deborah Coleman, Roxanne Potvin & Sue Foley
People Grinnin' In Your Face - Ruthie Foster
Meet Your Master - Nine Inch Nails
What If We Could - Blue October

Holiday Plans

Going skiing with my dad in Telluride, Colorado.

Should be lots of fun, both my father and I love to ski. He first took me skiing when I was six and I have been going every winter since and sometimes in the spring. I have tried snowboarding, and stuck with it for about three days, but decided that in the end skiing is better for me. Besides when you are pretty good at one it is hard to start all over again on the green circle slopes.

Although this means no New years eve parties for me....which might be a good thing since I tend to get more than a little tipsy at those sorts of things.
